Sometimes we presume the guy next door is poorer than we are, and that it will always stay that way. But people in a free society have income mobility (which also means the rich can lose their money!). In a similar way, the ranking of the world’s nation is not a given. Years ago, Argentina was far wealthier than South Korea, which was a third world country. Here are some of my thoughts about the ways in which the prosperity-ranking of nations changes over time.
