I really enjoy unusual music, world music, dance and house music, and many other types. Here I recommend two of my long-term favorite albums that you have probably never heard of.
Grateful Dead world-oriented drummer Mickey Hart’s Dafos (with outstanding Latin percussionists Flora Purim and Airto) has been out of print for some time, but it has some of the most amazing and unusual sounds ever recorded. Unfortunately, you can’t “taste” it by hearing MP3s (unless they are somewhere online that I did not find), but you can buy used copies of the album.
More readily available is composer (including operas) John Adams’ Hoodoo Zephyr. Kind of new age, somewhat cyclical like the music of Philip Glass, but with its own energy, you can taste this one on amazon.
Give them a try if you have adventurous ears!
